Directions for a Skillet Cobbler Mix
Congratulations! You’re about to make a great cobbler. It’ll be easy…and fun.
What you have here is a base mix. Because it’s a base mix, not a complete mix, you’ll need to add your own fruit or pie filling. You can start it in a skillet on the stovetop or use a baking pan and the oven.
Directions for Oven Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Select a 2 quart baking dish.
- Mix the cobbler. To the contents of one mix packet, add one large egg, 3/4 cup water, and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Beat with the paddle attachment in your stand-type mixer, with and electric mixer, or by hand until smooth.
- Heat the pan. Place two tablespoons of butter in your baking dish. Heat the pan in the oven until it is hot and the butter is melted. Remove the pan from the oven and pour the batter into the pan.
- Add the fruit to the pan. Distribute three cups of sliced fruit or berries or 1 1/2 cups pie filling over the batter. Dab or sprinkle the sweetener over the fruit if you are using unsweetened fresh or frozen fruit. (See sidebar for recommended fruits and sweeteners.)
- Bake. Place the pan in the oven uncovered and bake for 30 to 36 minutes or until the cobbler is a golden brown and the center of the cobbler is set when pressed lightly with your finger.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Caramel whipped cream goes very well with many fruit cobblers. See the recipe below for caramel whipped cream.
Directions for Stovetop Preparation
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Select a 10-inch ovenproof skillet or frying pan.
- Mix the cobbler. To the contents of one mix packet, add one large egg, 3/4 cup water, and 4 tablespoons melted butter. Beat with the paddle attachment in your stand-type mixer, with and electric mixer, or by hand until smooth.
- Heat the pan. Place two tablespoons of butter in your pan. Heat the pan on the stovetop until it is hot and the butter is melted. Turn the heat off and pour the batter into the pan.

Caramel Whipped Cream Recipe (Optional)
To make caramel whipped cream, whip one cup heavy cream with two tablespoons brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon caramel flavor until firm peaks form.
Recommended Fruit Fillings
Choose your fruit! We prefer fresh or frozen fruit like sliced peaches, apples, or plums. Pie cherries are great as are mangos or blueberries. We love peaches and raspberries together.
Unless sugar has been added to your fruit, you will need a sweetener. These are the sweeteners that we recommend:
- 1/4 cup jelly or jam
- 1/2 cup pastry filling
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup caramel ice cream topping
You can use canned fruit, pastry filling, or pie filling. Since pastry and pie fillings are sweetened, you won’t need a complimentary fruit sweetener.
