This is very simple to do.  Cook steaks as you normally do.  We cooked some of them on a rack in the oven (click here to see how to cook steaks on a rack in the oven) and some of them in a grilling pan.  The grilling pan does a great job and leaves nice grill marks on the steaks.  You can also cook them on your outdoor grill.  We brushed a little oil on both sides of the steaks along with minced garlic before baking but that is not required.

The recipe follows for herb topping.  We experimented spooning it loosely over the cooked steaks and patting it down into a crust.  It works both ways.  We thought that the loose topping was more attractive and saves a step and so that is what we did for the recipe.  If you like, you can place the topped steaks back in the oven under the broiler to brown the topping just a bit but with dry bread crumbs, we don’t feel that is necessary.

Herb and Garlic Topping for Steaks, Chops, and Chicken

This recipe makes enough topping for four large steaks.

1 large clove garlic, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped
6 tablespoons of butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 2/3 cups bread crumbs

Mix all the ingredients together and blend well.  Spoon over your cooked steaks, chicken, or chops.  Brown under the broiler element in your oven if desired.
