Fruit SaladThe sweetness of fruit pairs up perfectly with ham and mild cheese.  A creamy honey dressing seems to complement both.

For the salad

1/2 ripe cantaloupe, cut into melon balls
1 cup seedless red grapes, halved
1/2 large cucumber, peeled and diced
1/2 pound smoked or honey-cured deli ham cut into strips
1 cup small cheese cubes cut from a mild cheese like Gouda or Havarti

salad greens

Creamy Honey Dressing

1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon prepared Dijon mustard
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice

  1. Place the melon balls, grapes, cucumber, ham and cheese in a bowl.
  2. Make the dressing by whisking the yogurt, honey, mustard, and lemon juice together.  Pour the dressing over the ingredients and toss.
  3. Arrange salad greens on a plate and spoon the fruit salad on the greens.

This salad, like most fruit salads, is best well-chilled.

Baker’s note:  We debated over the mustard in this dressing.  I’m not much of a mustard fan and would have left it out.  Debbie and Melissa really liked the dressing with the mustard.  They won.
